EMMA RIDLEY, Expedition Leader, Top Picks & Other Essential Items
Britain is a country of spectacular scenery, and great nature – which is due to a large degree to its weather!
Some of the things I would not leave behind for an expedition to this region are:
My "Zodiac Rider's" Jacket . It protects from rain and cold on land, and yet is lightweight enough to be easily packed away and not too hot when the sun comes out. It is perfect for Zodiac rides and landings in less-than-perfect sea conditions – a common occurrence in Britian!
"Sunblocker Adventure Khakis". This particular item is one I would carry absolutely anywhere, especially as it is so lightweight and packs so small that you almost forget it’s there! They are great for protection against both sun and chill – so perfect for variable weather conditions! They are also tough enough to use for hikes in British nature, and smart enough to use for an evening meal and drink in a local pub.
The "Amphibian Binoculars". The British Islands are renowned for their fabulous birding, so binoculars are a must! Due to rains and splashy Zodiac rides, this waterproof pair is really ideal. I would carry them on a "binocular shoulder harness", if I were you, to keep your hands free but the binoculars always ready to go!
