EMMA RIDLEY, Expedition Leader, Top Picks & Other Essential ItemsA Lindblad expedition in Europe is a perfect balance between spending time in some of the most spectacular cities in the world, and exploring beautiful natural areas. Because of the dual nature of our travel in these destinations, I always look at packing with an eye towards items that can be used in the outdoors (Zodiac cruising and nature hiking) as well as in the fabulous cities we’ll explore.
Some of my favorite choices are:
"Lady Tilley Hemp Hat". This hat is both elegant enough to wear when dressed to go around the city and hard-working enough to wear on hikes, kayaking outings or Zodiac rides – I love it! It is the perfect hat, as it has UPF 50 sun protection and a wide rim, as well as being rain repellent.
"The Lightwire Backpack". I would never go anywhere in Europe without the perfect backpack! Whether out in nature or walking the city streets, we need to carry so many bits and pieces: a lightweight jacket, camera, batteries and memory cards, water, cash or cards for that impromptu shopping spree (and room to carry the items shopped!), a book to read at a street-side café etc. This is a great pack, as it can easily manage all this, yet is not too big and bulky – and looks great!
"The Bayview Shirt for Ladies". This is the perfect shirt for Europe in the summer, as it is cool and does not rumple, great for outdoor activities yet also stylish enough for lunch in quaint cafes and visits to art galleries. It comes in great colors, and can be worn under a jacket or fleece for layering. I would not leave without it, and in fact own several!
